Mississippi Natural Gas Pipelines & Sawmills — Loa Carbon
Pipelines: U.S. EIA, Natural Gas Interstate and Intrastate Pipelines (ArcGIS Online, layer updated Dec 2025), accessed 2026-09-22. Clipped to state boundary. Approximate locations; not for siting or excavation. Sawmills: Mississippi Forestry Commission directory and the Loa sawmill model (rebuilt 2026-10-08).

Dot area = Nyx units = mill residue (green tonnes/yr) ÷ 43,000 green tonnes per unit (24,000 dry tonnes). Hover a dot for name, Nyx units, state rank and capital access.
Mill rows come from Loa_Sawmill_Model.xlsx and refresh every time the model is merged. State rank = the model's opportunity-score rank among that state's mills; unranked mills are not yet scored. Capacity is the model's figure and basis; a permit figure is a ceiling, not production. Location is the MFC directory point where the mill matches one, otherwise the town centre (the popup says which). Listed mills with a capacity but no model residue are sized with the model's own median residue per MMBF and say so in the popup. "Nearest line" is straight-line distance to EIA generalized pipeline geometry, ± a few miles.
Power pool · 45V “Plains” (SPP)
Counties shaded by the balancing authority of the utilities that serve them. SPP maps to the 45V “Plains” region: cheap grid power for electrolysis, and the gasifier’s surplus CO2 can be methanated with that H2. Click a county for its utilities and industrial ¢/kWh.
Source: EIA-861 (2024) Service Territory × balancing-authority code; industrial ¢/kWh = each utility’s 2024 bundled industrial revenue ÷ sales in that state (an average, not the tariff a new large load would get). County level: “part of county” means at least one SPP utility serves somewhere in it, so confirm the serving utility per site. 45V: clean-power certificates must come from new generation (≤36 months older than the electrolyzer) in the same region, matched annually to 2029 and hourly from 2030. SPP’s 2026 western expansion (RTO West) is not shown. The cheapest SPP power is in the Plains core (SPS, NPPD, GRDA, Basin at 4.5–4.9¢ in 2024); the SPP fringe in AR, LA and east TX runs 5.9–8.5¢.
Trucked-gas prospects · Mississippi
Industrial plants that truck in gas or burn oil / propane off-pipe — candidates for a Nyx at the fence. Diamond size = fuel use in Nyx-equivalent units (290,000 MMBtu each).
Source: Trucked Gas Prospects 2026-10-02 (EPA GHGRP RY2019–2023 fuel use). Every “possible” and “no gas line” site was then researched one by one (permits, utility filings, EPA fuel records, news) on 2 Oct 2026 — the popup says what we found, who supplies the fuel and links the source. Wood nearby = Loa_Sawmill_Model.xlsx: operating sawmills (site point, else town centre) and operating wood buyers from the Demand Census (pulp, pellet, panel, biomass power, charcoal; town centre). Distances are straight-line. Mill sizes are the model’s; small mills are mostly unsized.
Gas utility service territories
Source: HIFLD Natural Gas Service Territories (EIA-176 based, source dates 2015–2016), ArcGIS copy pulled 2 Oct 2026. Boundaries are approximate — often whole counties or town limits — so “inside” means the utility holds the franchise there, not that a main runs past the site.
Pipeline type
Gulf South (Boardwalk)
Tennessee Gas (Kinder Morgan)
Southern Natural (KM / Southern Co.)
Transco (Williams)
Texas Eastern (Enbridge)
Other pipelines
Interstate transmission — top operators
Intrastate transmission — top operators
Mileage = mapped miles from EIA generalized geometry (parallel loops counted separately); not PHMSA-reported mileage.
Local distribution mains are not in any public dataset (PHMSA NPMS and MARIS publish transmission only), so only transmission lines are shown.
MFC points: Mississippi Forestry Commission, 2025 MS Forest Products Companies (Forest Industry Directory feature service, edited 2025-07-08). The directory carries no open/closed status.
Receipt/delivery points and compressor stations: HIFLD/EIA Natural Gas Receipt Delivery Points (source 2015, validated 2016-2017) and Compressor Stations (2020), via ArcGIS Online mirror. Receipt = point where gas enters the pipeline; existing points show where third-party gas is already accepted.
